Sunburst Cocoon Coat Introducing Folkwear's Sunburst Cocoon Coat. When the Russian Ballet production of Scheherazade came to Paris in 1910, the richly colored costumes inspired by the Orient thrilled audiences. At the same time, post-Victorian ladies were abandoning the constricting fashions of the turn of the century for more flowing, comfortable styles. The cocoon silhouette became a favorite fashion because it was both comfortable and dramatic. Many of the top French designers, particularly coutourier Paul Poiret, showed it in their collections and it was a common sight at the lavish theatrical parties of the day. F260.........$19.95

Garden Party Dress by Folkwear Although the fashions of 1910-12 incorporated a new straight, slim silhouette as a departure from the Edwardian S-Curve and full swishing skirts, there seemed to be a reluctance to abandon the lovely lacy detailing of that earlier period. 1901-1908 "Straight-Fronted" Edwardian Corset by Past Patterns
The cut of the "Straight-Fronted" Corset is said to have been invented by Mme. Gaches-Sarrautes at the turn of the century. It was considered a "Health Corset" because it was designed not to compress the waist or chest. Despite Mme. Gaches-Sarrautes efforts to create a "Health Corset", women tightened the waist so much so that the health effects were lost. This pattern is multi-sized 8 through 26. Sizes 8 through 20 require 1-1/4 Yds. and sizes 22 through 26 require 1-3/4 Yds. of 45 inch wide fabric. Original Edwardian corsets were made of coutil, cotton sateen, silk taffeta and a fine high thread count cotton. The most common colors were white and putty. Wear this with Past Patterns' P108 Corset Cover, P117 French Drawers and P107 Edwardian Combination. P106.........$12.00
