1805  Empire Gown

The bodice of this gown is gathered gently around the neckline as well as the rib cage.  Tiny puffed sleeves are gathered into small bands.  The gown has a center back hook and eye closure and may be constructed with or without a train.   suggested embroidery designs are included.

1825 Romantic Ball Gown

A one piece gown with a center front hook and eye closure.  The skirt is cut in gores with gathers across the center back at waistline. Puffed sleeves are set onto a band that extends over a moderately fitted long undersleeve.  The wide collar is set onto the bodice.  Pleated fabric is set onto a neckband, forming the neck ruff.  Petticoat instructions are included.

1835 Romantic Gown

This one-piece gown has a center front hook and eye closure, with a small section of shirring to the left and right of closure at the waistline.  The bodice is set on a foundation.  The collar and sleeve flounces can be embellished with either contrasting or self-fabric.  The rectangular skirt is set onto the bodice with cartridge pleats that are distributed evenly around the body.  Moderately full sleeves are gathered onto an upper sleeve body that is cased into the armseye.

Empire Dress

This high-waisted dress known today as "empire" was worn in the period following the French Revolution in the late 1700s. The revealing style, requiring few undergarments, reflected a desire to return to simpler, classical Grecian dress after the excesses of the European nobility. Narrow bodice is gathered into a skirt that is slim in front and full in back. The optional full-length train and sleeve details make it perfect for a bridal fashion. Suggested fabrics: Soft, lightweight or medium-weight fabrics such as cotton gauze, batiste, dotted Swiss, rayon challis, silk, very lightweight silk velvet with drape.

This dress is constructed in the large sleeve-style of the 1830s known as “gigot.” The full, ankle-length skirt is attached to a separate high-waisted bodice with hooks and eyes. This simple day dress has the narrow sleeves and “Marie Stuart” waist popular during the middle and late years of the decade. Cartridge pleating at the waist gives the skirt its soft, rounded shape, which can be further accentuated by wearing gathered petticoats.
