Whistle Stop Polonaise   1875-1888, Late Victorian

A gorgeous late Victorian polonaise, which can be made as a day dress, afternoon visiting dress, or a traveling dress.  Made in silk it would make a gorgeous wedding gown.

The design is taken from an extant garment found in a tiny shop called Whistle Stop Antiques.  All details of the original are included, as well as simplified versions for those who wish a less detailed gown. Fabrics
can be anything from good cottons to wool and heavy silks.  The  original was wool with silk tapestry inserts front and back.  
Variations include front or back opening, false revers or standing collar, several front trim options, sleeve and cuff options as well as several back treatments. Options for large and small bustles. Normally below knee length, and worn over a foundation skirt, but it can be a full length outfit.
Pattern includes ladies sizes 2 - 30.

Harper's Bazaar Corset   

Mid to late Victorian 1865-1880



A true mid to late Victorian corset taken from an 1871 Harper's Bazaar corset, necessary for the perfect Victorian silhouette. Fabrics can be coutil or duck, or a fancy fabric outer layer. Gap area figured in for you. Individualized length, plus bust and hip gussets. Many historical references and decoration ideas. Pattern includes ladies sizes 2-30.

1868-1887 Traveling Bustle   Mid to Late Victorian

A light weight, small, cloth bustle with no steels or hardware. Very simple construction. Lays flat or rolls tightly for traveling. Directly from an 1871 Harper's Bazaar. Multi-sized inclusive petite through full (waist 24", hips 34" through waist 60", hips 70"). Excellent pattern. Excellent value.

1858 Round Cage Crinoline

Truly Victorian
This is the perfect hoop for under regular, round shaped skirts It has 10 hoop wires to support heavy skirts, and a bag at the hem to keep the wearer from stepping through the hoops. 126" at the hem. Center front closure. Easy to build and the correct shape for 1855-1862. Multi-sized, regular and oversize.

Combination Underwear
This is a chemise and drawers combined into one garment. Open crotch and center front button closure. With three necklines to choose from, it can be worn under any style bodice. A correct undergarment for the years 1878 - 1900.Multi-sized, 30-50" bust.

This is the skirt that fits over our Elliptical Cage Crinoline, TV103. It has 9 panels, is fitted with pleats for a smooth waist, and flares to over 188" at the hem. 1887 Summer Overskirt


The front drapes just overlap in the center front and the sides are pulled high up onto the hips. The back is bouffant, with the sides falling in folds to make a nice uneven hem line. The closure is in the center front. Underskirt not included. XS - 2XL

1865 Elliptical Cage Crinoline

Truly Victorian
This open wire hoop skirt will give you the elusive elliptical shape that was so popular in Late/Post Civil War era of 1863-1868. A hem "bag" will keep the wearer's feet from slipping through. A wonderful shape and size at 126" hem circumference. One size fits most, up to 52" hip.

1895 Ripple Skirt


This skirt is the 1890's at it's best. The hem is a full 6 yards around, with gored seams to fit smoothly at the waist. Three godets in back are in box pleats, while the full side gores fall in graceful ripples. The closure is hidden under the box pleats at the left side back.  XS - 2XL

1893 Bell Skirt


This skirt gives the beautiful A-line of the 1890's. It has a gored front. The sides are fitted with a dart, and the back is pleated very full into the center back. The seam across the middle back is historically correct. Comes in two train lengths. The closure is in the center back.  XS - 2XL

1892 Umbrella Skirt with Train


This skirt is constructed all in one piece. The front is narrow and fitted with darts. The full back lays in folds, with a center back closure. Requires minimum of 50" material for taller sizes XS - 2XL

Chemise and Drawers


This chemise works well for both day and evening wear, on or off the shoulder. Simply shaped with a drawstring neckline, it is comfortable to wear under any garment. The open drawers have side button closures, and semi-drawstring waist. The legs are finished with a band and ruffle.  XS - 3XL

1898 Flared Skirt

The front panel extends the full length of the skirt, while the sides and back are cut with a fitted upper section and a tapered flare to add fullness at the hem. It has box pleats on either side of the center back closure. An optional kick pleat can be added to the front seams at the hem. This style of skirt was extremely popular from 1898-1903, and can be used for both day and evening wear.  XS - 3XL

1898 Eton Jacket

This is a loose fitting jacket to be worn over a blouse. Can be waist length with a square collar or crop length with a round collar. Sleeve is fitted to above the elbow with fullness at the top.  Will fit size group A or B

1892 Ball Gown Bodice


This bodice fits smoothly over a corset with a pointed front and back. The neck is rounded and the closure is in the center back. The pouf sleeve is formed in chrysanthemum style. Does not fit over bustle.  Size group A

This is a very elegant hoop skirt with a top skirt falling in swags over a specially pleated ruffle. Can be made with contrasting fabrics for greater effect. Fits over 120", 135", and 150" hoops. Fits all sizes.

1843 Tablier Skirt
This skirt is inspired by a Mr. Worth drawing, as a pre-hoop design. The upper section, or "tablier", of the skirt has four rounded points. The shaped flounce adds enough fullness to fit over a hoop. Fits all sizes.

1860's Ballgown Bodice
This is an off-the-shoulder 3-piece bodice for evening wear. The neckline is decorated with a gathered bertha and bow at the shoulders. The waist has a point in both front and back. The center back closes with hooks and eyes.  Size group A

1859 Pagoda Bodice
This is a 3-piece bodice, the most common style of the early Victorian era. It has an elongated shoulder and a large Modified Pagoda sleeve. The closure is in the center front, and there is no center back seam. The neckline can be high or an open square. The waist can be straight around or with a shallow point. Size group A

1851 Petal Ballgown Skirt
A beautiful Pre-Hoop skirt. The upper "petals" fall gracefully over the skirt. The very deep lower flounce adds enough fullness to go over a hoop, if desired. Fits all sizes.

1859 Double Skirt
This skirt has two layers, just as the name implies. The skirt lining has a flounce added to give plenty of fullness over a hoop. The upper skirt covers the lining and the top of the flounce. Fits all sizes.

1870 Blouse Waist
This is a loose fitting blouse, that either tucks into a skirt, or has it own waistband. Two neckline variations, flowing sleeves, button front. Perfect for sheer/lightweight fabrics. Wear with or without corset Will fit groups A & B.

1872 Vest Basque
It has a simulated "vest" portion in the center front, closing with buttons to the waist, and diamond-shaped neckline framed with a rolled collar. The back has a tail with a pleat at each side-back seam. Fitted 2-piece sleeve with wide cuff. Fits size group A.

Grand Bustle
This bustle is bigger than TV101, with a complete wire frame built in. Two rows of wire at the hem hold the skirt to the beautiful full shape all around, required for the early bustle years. Ruffles down the back soften the line.  Multisized XS-3XL.

A new drafting method allows for easier customizing of fit. Can be made with high or square neckline, two hem option, and two-piece sleeves. Closure is in the center front. Fits over a bustle.  Size group A.

1873 Polonaise
A Polonaise is a bodice and overskirt in one garment. The back has a bodice section with basque over a pouf. The Front buttons to the waist and then falls open in two point. Pleats at the sides form drapes. For intermediate/advanced sewers.  Size group A.

Talma Wrap
A talma is a type of wrap with a fitted back held in place by a hidden belt. The front is loose with a center front closure. The "sleeves" hang in long points on each side. A box pleat in the back fits over a bustle.  Fits group A & B.

1870 Trained Skirt Ensemble
This contains two complete skirt/apron designs. Skirt A has a 5 gore front, double width trained back and a full apron with 4 sashes falling down the back. 1878 Fantail Skirt

1883 Tail Bodice
The front is like a Cuirass bodice. The neck either high with a mandarin collar, or a low diamond with a half collar. The narrow two-piece sleeve is in full or ¾ length. Double box pleats add lots of fullness to the "Waterfall" back. Fits best over a bustle  Size group A

1885 Pannier Panel Add-On
This pattern is for a center front drapery, side panels, and a pannier that can be added to the TV261 Four Gore Underskirt. Each element can be used by itself or in any combination with the others. The front drapery is a shirred or pleated section that fits onto the front panel of TV261. The side panels extend forward of the front seams and fit into the back side seams. The Pannier drapery fits over the entire front TV261. Also included are instructions for using the TV261 pattern to make a double layered back with poufs, to add decoration to the back of the dress.  Multi-sized, XS - 2XL

is high necked for day wear, or a square neck for evening, and has a two-piece mutton sleeve. The evening sleeve is a small pouf. The hem has two options. This style is suited to 1883-1889, and fits over a bustle. Specify size group A or B.

Based on the vintage uniform of the 19th century schoolmarm, this two-piece outfit features a classic "shirtwaist" or blouse with beautifully different scalloped front opening and flattering princess lines. Wear it with the sweeping seven-gore skirt with optional bias trim. A Lady's Chemise Extra Small to 3X Large

For hundreds of years, a chemise was that intimate garment worn next to a lady's skin and was often meticulously monogrammed in dainty script during the Victorian era. Today, A Lady's Chemise is the perfect nightgown or simple summer dress. Our flattering chemise was worn during the mid to late 1800s and we offer two appealing versions. Both views have short gathered and ruffled cap sleeves and can be cut low knee-length or at the hip to be worn as a blouse. Delicate pleats accent the center front and back of the neckline, which is adjustable with feminine ribbon drawstrings. Instructions and alphabet designs for a Victorian monogram are included. Suggested Fabrics: Light-weight cottons and blends such as batiste, lawn, voile, gauze, or eyelet; handkerchief linen; silks such as crepe de chine; rayon challis. Originals were made of lightweight muslin or linen.

1870s Bustle Walking Dress

Late Victorian Corset 

from Past Patterns

The 'Hour Glass' silhouette of the 1880s and 1890s was achieved by wearing this corset or one similar to it. Today it is not necessary to draw the waist tight, only make the corset fit snugly to get the smooth Victorian look from shoulder to waist.

The original fabric was a black satin weave cotton. It was trimmed with a rough cream lace into which narrow purple ribbon was drawn.

This pattern is multi-sized 8 through 26 in B, C and D cups. Sizes 8-20 require 1-1/3 Yds. of 45 inch wide fabric; sizes 22-26 require 1-3/4 Yds. of 45 inch wide fabric.
